Flagyl, compose of Metronidazole, is an antibacterial and antiparasitic anti-infective, possibly by interaction with DNA nitroimidazoles group. Inhibits the synthesis of nucleic acid and is used to treat infections caused by protozoa and anaerobic bacteria. Metronidazole is also indicated as a gel preparation for the treatment of dermatological diseases such as acne rosacea. Important to remember that metronidazole should be taken during meals.
Warnings and Precautions: Reduce dose when you are not on dialysis, and monitor serum metabolites. Hepatic encephalopathy. Acute or chronic severe CNS or PNS, risk of neurological worsening disease. If it is necessary to extend the treatment, assessing benefit / risk hematologic make determinations, particularly leukocyte count, and monitor risk of central or peripheral neuropathies. Darkens the urine. Effect antabuse with alcohol, avoid. Evaluate use in prolonged treatment. Reactions of Metronidazole: Epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, oral mucositis, taste disorder, anorexia, pancreatitis (reversible), rash, pruritus, pustular rash, fever, angioedema, anaphylactic shock, peripheral sensory neuropathy, headache, convulsions, vertigo, encephalopathy syndrome cerebellar acute, psychotic disorder, confusion, hallucinations, depressive behavior, transient visual disturbances, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, reversible alteration of liver function tests, cholestatic hepatitis.
