Cialis, also known as ‘Tadalafil’ or ‘Adcirca’, is a yellow, almond-shaped pharmaceutical drug sold in Australia and throughout the world that is taken orally and used primarily to treat male erectile dysfunction. Cialis is also utilized to treat other related disorders, including pulmonary arterial hypertension as well as benign prostatic hyperplasia, a condition where the prostate becomes enlarged, causing problems when urinating. (It should be noted that this drug is not for use in women or children).
Cialis, now owned and distributed by Eli Lilly and Company, was first created, indirectly, by the Icos Corporation in the early 1990s. During a clinical study of a heart medication, scientists from Pfizer discovered that one of Icos’ compounds caused penile erection in the men involved in the study, and the scientists hypothesized that these compounds could possibly be useful for men suffering from ED. This led to patents of these compounds, further clinical trials for treating ED specifically, and the eventual FDA approval of Cialis.
How its works
Cialis works by increasing blood flow to the penis to allow it to dilate and fill with blood, thus causing an erection (though it does not create sexual arousal). It also inhibits the substance that allows the blood vessels to return to a normal, post-erection state, and thus maintains the erection for a longer period of time. Unlike Viagra or Levita which only last a few hours, Cialis is often called “the weekend pill” because its effects can last up to 36 hours. However, Cialis takes longer to activate, sometimes up to two hours. When taken orally, it does not have any known food interactions nor does not need to be taken with food or during a meal.
In terms of dosage, Cialis is available in four distinct dosages of 2.5, 5, 10 and 20mg depending on the need of each specific patient. Most people take 5-10mg once per day, which means it is more convenient as it does not need to be taken immediately before each period of sexual activity thorough out the day.
Side effects
The common side effects of Cialis may seem daunting but are uncommon and usually short-lasting. There can range from headache, stomach discomfort, indigestion, acid reflux, to back pain and muscle aches. Cialis cannot be taken with other medications that include nitrates or in anyone with allergies to the active ingredient, Tedalafil. The FDA has also advised about sudden hearing loss experienced by some that have been regular users of Cialis and similar medications. Further, it is reassuring to know that Tadalafil was not shown to be carcinogenic, mutagenic, or adversely affective towards fertility as shown in studies where it was given to rats or mice daily for two years at dosages up to 400 mg. Further tests were done to determine if Cialis affects the quality of sperm in men, and no adverse effects on sperm morphology or motility occurred in any of the studies.
Finally, Cialis is available through prescription and should, like all medications, be taken under the supervision of a medical doctor only.
Cialis without prescription
In both Australia and the US, the generic form of Cialis is available for purchase online without a prescription, but this is not advisable. Counterfeit Cialis and tadalafil pills are widely available and such fake drugs can be extremely dangerous and should be vehemently avoided.
